Three days of conference and non-conference hockey for the Soldotna Stars and Kenai Kardinals opened with SoHi recording a conference win over Houston and the Kardinals falling to South Anchorage.
SoHi Hockey
The Stars opened with a Railbelt Conference victory over Houston 7-1 on Thursday at the Big Lake Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the Stars scored three goals in the second period: one for Wyatt Medcoff (5:06); one for Galen Brantley III (7:42); and a goal for David Aley (10:20). In the third period, SoHi added four goals while allowing a single goal off a turnover in front of the Star net. Silas Larsen (2:13), Trent Powell (6:22), Aiden Burcham (12:30) and Alex Montague (13:02) all scored for the Stars. Josh Tree recorded six saves on seven shots in goal for SoHi; Josh Smeldon recorded 37 saves for the Hawks. Final Score: SoHi 7, Houston 1.
The Stars face-off against Palmer on Friday for another Railbelt showdown. SoHi defeated Palmer 4-1 in earlier conference play. The Stars close-out the road swing against Wasilla at the Brent Arena on Saturday in a non-divisional game against the Warriors.

Kenai Kardinal Hockey
The Kenai Kardinal hockey team opened on Thursday at Ben Boeke Arena falling to Division I South Anchorage. Kenai, 3-3-1 in Railbelt Conference play, travels to Juneau to face the Juneau hockey team which is 1-4 in the Railbelt.
