SoHi & Kenai Record Opening Victories At Peninsula Ice Challenge

The Soldotna Stars overmatched Delta and the Kenai Kardinals overpowered Tri-Valley in the opening round of the 2021 Peninsula Ice Challenge hockey tournament on Thursday at split-venues.

 

SoHi 8 – Delta 0

In the first half of the first period, the Soldotna Stars built a 4-0 lead over the Delta Huskies and SoHi cruised to an 8-0 shutout of Delta at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.  First period goals were scored by Josh O’Lena, Gehret Medcoff, Marshall DeRaeve and Daniel Heath.

In the second period, Medcoff completed his three-goal, hat trick with two goals and Andrew Arthur and Dawson Lockwood added goals.

 

Kenai 9 – Tri-Valley 0

Kenai and Tri-Valley played evenly through the first period before the Kardinals blew open a 9-0 shut out of the Warriors.

Logan Mese scored the only first period goal, staking the Kardinals to a 1-0 lead.  In the second period, Kenai scored six goals by six different players as Jacob Begich, Logan Mese, Ayden Spann, Landin Cialek, Sawyer Vann and Avery Martin all scored for a 7-0 Kenai lead.  Jacob Wait and Avery Martin closed the scoring in the third period.
