SoHi & Nikiski Record Victories In Wrestling Duals

The final regular season duals for central peninsula high school wrestling programs paired the Soldotna Stars against Homer and the Kenai Kardinals against Nikiski on Senior Night for both the Stars and Kards on Tuesday.

 

Area wrestlers faced-off in single match, head-to-head competition; the final match for SoHi before the Northern Lights Conference wrestling tournament December 7-8 in Palmer and the final dual for Kenai and Nikiski before this weekends Grace Invitational and next week’s Kachemak Conference wrestling tournament.

 

SoHi 47 – Homer 32

Ten varsity boys matches, a pair of varsity girls matches and five exhibition matches made for a full evening of wrestling at Soldotna Prep School, as the Division I Soldotna Stars outscored Division II Homer 47-32.

The Stars recorded four varsity pins: senior Brennan Warner at 189, senior Gideon Hutchison at 130, Brayde Wolfe at 145, and Sean Babitt at 171.

Nikiski 48, Kenai 24 

Kenai outscored Nikiski on the mat on the Kardinals Senior Night by winning five of seven pairings in a match which settled seven bouts by forfeit.  The Bulldogs won the dual receiving points for six forfeited matches.

Kardinal victories included: Tucker Vann over Koleman McCaughey 7-4 at 160 lbs.,  Rocky Sherbahn over Dustin Mullins by pin at 215, Talon Whicker recorded a pin over Nikiski’s Griffin Gray at 103, Brandon Kroto defeated Nikiski’s Mason Payne 9-6.

Kenai’s  Olivia Easley won the only girls pairing with a pin of Nikiski’s Destiny Martin at 130 pounds.

Nikiski recorded victories by pin for: Chase Olsen over Kenai’s Daemon Duniphin in the 119-pound match and Jordan Fleming over Isaiah Ticknor at 125 pounds.
