Goals came in pairs in the Railbelt Conference hockey battle between Soldotna and Kenai, with the Stars downing Kenai 4-2 on a pair of third period goals on Friday at the Kenai Multi-Purpose Facility. The Stars improve to 1-1 in conference play; Kenai moves to 1-2-1 in the Railbelt.
SoHi 4 – Kenai 2
The Stars scored a pair of goals in the final 1:10 of the first period for a 2-0 lead after one period. David Aley scored the first goal at 13:51 and Alex Montague followed with a SoHi goal at 14:31 for a 2-0 SoHi lead.
Kenai answered in the second period with two, unanswered goals. Jordan Knudsen netted the first Kenai goal and Miles Marston added the second to tie the game at 2-2 after two periods.
In the third period, the Stars took advantage of Kenai penalties with a pair of power-play goals. Trent Powell scored the eventual, game-winner on a power-play goal in the second minute of the final period. Wyatt Medcoff netted a final power-play goal in the final two minutes for a 4-2 SoHi victory.
In goal for the Stars, Josh Tree recorded 15 saves. For the Kardinals, Tommy Baker turned-away 29 shots.
