The Soldotna Stars took a page from Mark Twain (Google it) on Friday night dominating the Chugiak Mustangs 35-0 in Division II football and welcoming the Mustangs into the newly-formed Northern Lights Conference.

SoHi 35 – Chugiak 0

The Soldotna Stars rushing attack and stifling defense dismantled Chugiak 35-0 on the strength of over 330 yards on the ground and a shut-out by the SoHi defense.

Sophomore running back Garhet Medcoff carried for 184 yards and three rushing touchdowns to lead the Stars ground game.  Medcoff scored on rushing touchdowns of 19, 66, 18 yards.  SoHi’s defense held Chugiak under 100 yard rushing.

In a postgame interview, SoHi Head Coach Galen Brantley commented on the new additions to and new alignment of Division II football,   “I think (the new DII) is awesome, one of the best things to happen to Alaska high school football.  “We’re now in a phenomenal league with a bunch of schools with 700-900 students. We’re all very similar, in types of towns and school enrollment.”  “It’s going to be very competitive for years to come”.

The Stars improve to 1-1 on the regular season with a non-divisional contest against Service High of Anchorage scheduled for next Friday, September 3rd.

Note:  Mark Twain stated (although misquoted), “The report of my death was an exaggeration.”
