Soldotna 9, Homer 0
On Thursday night January 18th, the Soldotna Stars were stymied throughout the first period by the heroic goaltending of Homer’s Blaise Banks, who stopped 17 shots by the Stars to hold a 0-0 tie into the 2nd stanza.
But the Stars punched through right away at the :29-second mark of the 2nd period with a goal by Gehret Medcoff, a fast wrist shot from the slot. Shorthanded goals by Daniel Heath and Jace Appelhans made it 3-0, and a power-play goal with just two seconds left in the period by Appelhans made it 4-0.
In the 3rd period, the Stars scored 5 unanswered goals, with Marshall DeRaeve and Boone Theiler scoring and Heath adding two more goals for a hat-trick. Medcoff polished off the scoring with his 2nd goal.
Banks had 38 stops for the Mariners and a shut-out was recorded by Brycen Clyde with 9 saves for the game.
Heath won Player of the Game honors with his hat-trick
