The final combined track meet for peninsula athletes and the final meet before the Region III Track and Field Championships, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Track & Field Championships were contested at Kenai Central High School on Saturday with the Soldotna Stars earning both the girls and boys team titles.
Kenai Peninsula Borough Track & Field Championships: Girls
The Soldotna girls dominated the team scoring and recorded 11 first-place finishes. The Star girls won three relays with victories in the 4X100M Relay, 4X400M Relay and 4X800M Relay. The SoHi 4X400M Relay posted a new, state best time of 4:17.42 with members: Jordan Strausbaugh, Erika Arthur, Ellie Burns and Drysta Crosby-Schneider. SoHi triple jumper Drysta Crosby-Schneider set a new, state-best at 35′ 1.25″.
Homer’s Laura Inama was the only four, individual event winner with victories in the 100M, 200M, 300H and Long Jump.
In the field events, SoHi’s Autumn Fischer won both the Shot Put and Discus. SoHi’s middle and distance runners split events and won all three: Arthur in 800M, Strausbaugh in the 1600M and Jordan Ruffner in the 3200M.
Kenai Peninsula Borough Track & Field Championships: Boys
The Soldotna boys outscored the field for the team title lead by a sweep in the relay events and 12 first-place finishes.
The Stars swept the sprints, including: Trenton O’Reagon-100M, Nate Johnson-200M, and Nate Johnson-400M. SoHi’s Dylan Dahlgren threw for victories in the Shot Put and Discus. Trenton O’Reagan was a three-event winner with victories in the 100M and Long Jump and anchored the 4X100M Relay. SoHi placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 3200M run.
Kenai’s Mason Dunham captured the 800M.
The Region III Track & Field Championships will be hosted at Wasilla High School on May 21-22 with competition in two divisions; 3A and 4A.
