Team depth compounded team points for both the Soldotna girls track team and the SoHi boys track team as both programs raced, threw and jumped to the 2019 Region III 4A Track & Field Championships.
The Kenai Kardinal girls team on the strength of eight, first place finishes powered to the Region III 3A girls championship. The Anchorage Christian School boys outscored the Kardinal boys for the boys 3A team title.
Region III 4A Track & Field Championships: Girls
The Soldotna Star girls recorded 221 team points, nearly 100 points more than second place Wasilla en route to the 4A girls team championship
SoHi raced to individual victories by:
Erika Arthur in the 3200M run (12:15.83)
Itu Tuisaula in the discus (117′ 11″)
Itu Tuisaula in the shot put (40′ 1″)
Danica Schmidt in the high jump ( 4′ 10″)
Relay victories in the 4X200M and 4X800M relays
The Star girls also added 2nd & 3rd place finishes (and possible state qualifiers) including:
Brittany Taylor: 2nd place: 200M and 400M
Erika Arthur: 3rd place in 1600M
Holleigh Jaime: 2nd place in 100M hurdles and 3rd place in 300M hurdles
SoHi 4X100M relay, 2nd place
SoHi 4X400M relay, 2nd place
Aliann Schmidt: 2nd place in high jump
Kylie Ness: 2nd place in long jump and 3rd in triple jump
Mikayla Leadens: 3rd in long jump
Region III 4A Track & Field Championships: Boys
The Soldotna Star boys recorded 223 points for first place in the 4A boys team scoring powered by four individual champions in the field events.
Individual champions for the SoHi boys included:
Galen Brantley III: 1st place in shot put (48′ 11″)
Galen Brantley III: 1st Place in discus (134′ 1″)
Kaleb Swank: 1st Place in high jump (6′)
Bryan Whitaker: 1st Place in the triple jump (42′ 7.5″)
Ben Booth: 1st Place in 200M (22.89)
SoHi 4X100M Relay: 1st Place
The Star boys also added 2nd & 3rd place finishes (and possible state qualifiers) including:
Eli Cravens: 3rd place in 200M
Bradley Walters: 3rd place in the 3200M
Wyatt Medcoff: 2nd place in the 300M hurdles
SoHi 4X200M relay: 2nd place
SoHi 4X800M relay: 2nd place
Region III 3A Track & Field Championships: Girls
The Kenai Kardinal girls, on the strength of eight, first place finishes finished first in the team scoring downing Grace 302 to 274 .
Jaycie Calvert lead the Region III runners with three, individual championships including the 800M (2:29.95), 1600M (5:21.99) and 3200M (11:36.87). Calvert was selected Co-Region III 3A Female Athlete of the Year.
The Kardinal girls also recorded a first place finish in the 100M hurdles for Savanna Wilson (16.51). Chelsea Plagge won the girls triple jump (34′ 4.75″) for Kenai’s lone field event victory.The Kardinal girls won three relay events including the 4X100M, 4X200M and 4X800M relays.
Nikiski’s Kaitlyn Johnson topped the field in the girls discus at 118′ 1″.

The Kenai Kardinal boys finished second in the team scoring with team depth on only two first place individual titles.
