In the final invitational meet of the track season for peninsula teams, the Soldotna Star track teams, both girls and boys, placed second in the overall team scoring at the Palmer Invitational Track & Field Meet held at Palmer High School.
Palmer Invitational: Girls Results
SoHi Girls
The SoHi girls recorded 128.2 points, just 1.9 points behind Colony for the team title, the equivalent of one place winner in one event!
The Soldotna girls totaled two individual first-place finishes and one relay top finish.
Jordan Strausbaugh lead the SoHi girls with a first-place in the 800M run posting a 2:31.32, the second-fastest time in Alaska for the season. Strausbaugh also finished second in the 1600M run and second in the 3200M run (on Friday) and was a member of the Stars 4X400M relay.
Adara Hagelund won the girls high jump with a personal best 4’10”, the second-best jump in the state. Hagelund also finished third in the triple jump and 7th in the 100M hurdles. Ellie Burns raced to a 4th in the 8ooM, 4th in the 400M and was a member of the Stars winning 4X400M relay and second-place 4X800M relay. SoHi relay team members included: 4X400M (Anaulie Sedivy, Kaytlin McAnelly, Annie Burns and Ellie Burns); 4X800M (Strausbaugh, Ellie Burns, Annie Burns, Kaytlin McAnelly).
Annie Burns added a 5th in the 3200M and a 5th in the 1600M. Kaytlin McAnelly finished 5th in the 200M and Mandi Sisley added a 4th in the triple jump.
Kenai Girls
The Kenai girls placed ninth overall with a third in the long jump and 4th in the 100M by Malena Grieme. Emma Beck placed 5th in the shot put and Jayna Boonstra placed 6th in both the 1600M and 3200M runs. The Kenai 4X100M relay placed fifth with team members: Sierra Hershberger, Hager El Serry, Malerie Nunn and Malena Grieme; sixth in 4X400M relay (Grace Kahn, Mya Taylor, Jayna Boonstra, Hager El Serry).
Palmer Invitational: Boys Results
SoHi Boys
The Soldotna boys (97 points) finished second in the team scoring behind Wasilla (130 points) and ahead of Colony (87 points).
Dylan Dahlgren topped the field in the boys discus with a state-best 159′; Dylan also placed 4th in the shot put. SoHi sprinter Leigh Tacey II won the 400M and placed third in the 100M and 200M. Nate Johnson finished second in the 400M and third in the 800M. Ethan Sewell added a third in the high jump and Daniel McRorie placed 4th in the 300M hurdles. James Innes placed 6th in the 400M and Jared Williams placed 6th in both the 200M and 100M. The SoHi relay teams placed second in the 4X200M and 4X400M and 3rd in the 4X800M relay (see team members in meet results).
Kenai Boys
Gregory Fallon placed second in the 800M and fifth in the 1600M, David Martin placed third in the triple jump, Armands Veksejs placed fourth in the 400M and fifth in the 800M and Jacob Begich placed fifth in both the 100M and 200M. Kenai relay teams placed second in the 4X100M relay, fourth in the 4X200M relay, fourth in the 4X400M relay and fifth in the 4X800M relay (see team members in meet results). In the field events, David Martin placed third in the triple jump, James Sparks placed sixth in the long jump and John Wright placed fourth in the discus.
