The Soldotna girls, competing in Division I at the Region III Cross Country Running Championships, raced to a team runner-up title behind an individual championship run by SoHi junior Erica Arthur completing the Palmer course in 19:52. Erica Arthur was awarded Region III Division I Female Athlete of the Year.
In the Division II girls race, Autumn Daigle topped the field for the Region III D-II title. The Kardinal girls placed second in the team scoring.
In the boys competition, Kenai’s Maison Dunham placed second in the Division II boys race. Bradley Walters lead the Stars with a fifth-place finish in the Division I boys event.
Division I Girls
Erica Arthur and SoHi sophomore Jordan Strausbaugh lead the pack down the stretch in the Division I girls event; Arthur pulling away for the Region III D-I crown. The Colony Knights captured the team title with SoHi finishing second overall. Strausbaugh placed 3rd overall and SoHi’s Jordan Ruffner, 11th. The Colony girls placed five runners in the top-10.
Division I Boys
The Soldotna boys placed third in the team scoring behind Colony and Region III D-I champion Kodiak. Kodiak’s Connor Marbrey won the D-I boys race in a time of 16:35. SoHi’s Bradley Walters placed fifth and Lance Chilton, eighth.
Division II Girls
Homer’s Autumn Daigle posted a time of 19:03 for first place in the girls Region III D-II varsity race. Daigle won the Division II state championship in 2017 and finished behind Kenai’s Jaycee Calvert in 2018.
Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra placed second overall with a time of 19:34. Kenai’s Logan Satathite placed fourth and Leah Fallon, sixth pushing the Kenai girls to a runner-up finish behind Grace Christian School.
Division II Boys
Kenai’s Maison Dunham challenged returning Region III D-II champion Tristian Merchant of Anchorage Christian; however, Merchant owned the course posting a time of 15:04. Dunham finished second overall with a time of 16:28. Joe Hamilton of Kenai placed seventh. Grace Christian won the boys team title placing five runners in the top-10.
ASAA State Championships:Qualifiers
The ASAA State Cross Country Running Championships for Division I and II will be contested on the Bartlett High School trails on Saturday, October 5th.
The Soldotna girls and boys teams both qualify to the Division I state by finishing in the top three in the team scoring.
The Kenai girls and boys all qualify to the Division II state by finishing in the top-four in the team scoring.
