SoHi’s Hutchison Wins State Division I Wrestling Title: Wrestling State Results Posted

Soldotna High School’s Gideon Hutchison recorded the peninsula’s only individual championship in Division I wrestling at the 2017 ASAA Division I Wrestling State Championships.

 

The state championships for Division I, Division II and the Girls Division were all contested at the Alaska Airlines Center at UAA, with the championship bouts on Saturday night.

 

In Division I, The Lathrop Malemutes held off the Colony Knights 160-158 for the Division I team championship.  The Soldotna Stars finished sixth in the team scoring.

Gideon Hutchison won the 120 pound weight class for the Stars lone individual championship. Bechler Metcalf earned a second in the 152-pound class and Logan Craig finished fourth at 106 pounds.

Kenai’s Byron Dunham finishes third overall in the 195 pound weight class.

 

In Division II wrestling, the Homer Mariners earned four individual championships, in route to a runner-up finish to Bethel in the Division II team scoring.

Seth Inama won at 120 pounds; Luciano Fasulo placed 1st in the 132-pound weight class, finishing 47-0 for the season; Mose Hayes places first at 138 pounds; and Levi Cook wins the 195 pound weight class.

Homer also recorded a second at 126 for Wayne Newman; a fourth at 170 pounds for Chris Cudaback; a second at 182 for Tristen Cook and a second place for Kyle Wells at 220 pounds.

 

In the Girls Division, The Homer Mariners finish fourth and SoHi tied for eighth in the team scoring.

Homer earned two individual championships with Alex Moseley winning at 120 pounds and  McKenzie Cook at 145 pounds.

SoHi’s Amanda Wylie finishes third at 145 pounds.
