Soldotna Amends FY23 Operating Budget By Adopting Mid-Biennium Update

The Soldotna City Council enacted an ordinance amending the operating budget for FY23 by adopting the mid-biennium update to FY22 and the 2023 Biennial Operating Budget. In accordance with Soldotna Municipal Code, the council adopts a biennial operating budget and establishes appropriations by approval of a budget ordinance prior to the beginning of each biennium. The Biennial Operating Budget for FY22 and FY23, was enacted by the city council on June 9, 2021 through ordinance.

 

Prior to the second year of the biennium, the city manager will present any amendments to the second year of the approved operating budget for City Council consideration.

 

City Manager Stephanie Queen said:

Ms. (Melanie) Imholte (Finance Director) and I had the opportunity to present this budget and the details of the proposed changes to year two of the biennial budget at a recent work session and we went into detail on all of those changes there, described in the management letter at the front of the budget that Melanie and I produce, which details all of those changes.”

 

Additional sums of money were appropriated for city operations for the fiscal year commencing on July 1, 2022 and ending on June 30, 2023, they included $680,684 in the General Fund. The General Fund includes Mayor and Council, City Manager, Finance/HR, IT, etc. $59,634 is included the Utility Fund, which provides water and sewer services to approximately 1,500 residents and businesses. $27,807 is included in the Airport Fund, which accounts for operations and maintenance at the Soldotna Municipal Airport.

 

The Mid-Biennium Update provides an opportunity to adjust for events or changes that have occurred since the adoption of the biennial budget and to plan for events anticipated to occur before the biennium concludes. It is not intended to make extensive changes to the currently adopted budget.
