Votes were certified in the City of Soldotna’s four municipal ballot items from the October 6 election, officially allowing of the swearing-in ceremonies for elected officials during Wednesday night’s Soldotna City Council meeting.
The official results were as follows:
- Mayor: Paul Whitney with 754 votes, earning 94.94% (previously on the council, ran unopposed).
- Council Seat B: Pamela Parker with 730 votes, earning 95.80% (incumbent, ran unopposed).
She was not present at the Wednesday meeting, but will be sworn-in prior to the October 28 meeting. - Council Seat F: Justin Ruffridge with 746 votes, earning 96.76% (incumbent, ran unopposed).
Also on the ballot was Proposition 2020-1: Exempting the appointed City of Soldotna Planning and Zoning Commission Officials from the requirements of the Alaska Public Officials Financial Disclosure Law, which was defeated with 699 votes at 76.48%.
As a result of being elected Mayor on October 6, Whitney submitted his resignation from City Council Seat A, effective October 18 at midnight. Within 35 days, the remaining council members will appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy until the next regularly scheduled election, which is October 5 of next year.
