Friday, September 26 is the deadline to file candidacy for the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Chamber President Ryan Kapp said the six available seats are broken up into three 3 year seats and three 1 year seats and detailed what the board does.
Kapp: “We of course manage the budget that the chamber has, of course we help with the events, the staff is kind of primary in running the pie auction as well as some of the different things that go on like Progress Days, we help with the parade there and some different things like that, so kind of a variety of activities throughout the year that help support businesses in the community and help build tourism and businesses here that are members.”
He said they always hope for a diverse board.
Kapp: “Currently we have a couple folks that work in the financial industry, couple in real estate, different private business owners stuff like that, it helps us to have a diverse group on the board and as far as what it does for the board members it’s almost like a civic duty I think it helps give a little time back to some of the different events that we do and just helps you have a voice as to what direction the chamber goes and where we use our resources and spend or energy basically.”
