Tim Navarre was named as the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce’s “Person of the Year” at the annual awards luncheon Tuesday.
Although he was not present to receive his award, he thanksed everyone for the recognition, saying his parents raised him and his ten siblings to always give back to the community.
Navarre: “I mean from church events, to community events, to my dad stepping up, even when he took over as city manager in the city of Kenai at one point. We would travel to Soldotna, Homer, and all around the peninsula and see people when we were just little. My dad engaged with everybody from one end of the peninsula to the other.”
He was born in Lansing, Michigan, but the Navarre family moved to Alaska when Tim was 3-years-old. The family homesteaded in Nikiski in 1957 and he graduated from Kenai High School in 1973,
Navarre is currently a member of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, the Kenai City Council, and the Central Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board.
The Soldotna Chamber also recognized his volunteering each year at the Industry Appreciation Day since it began, the Kenai River Classic, and playing Santa Claus at numerous events and gatherings every year.
