Over the past several months, multiple Special Assessment Districts have been discussed by the Soldotna City Council, causing some confusion with the public involved as well as the council itself pertaining to ways residents involved in the districts could appeal the process.

The council held a work session last month in which they went over possibly clarifying language within the city code, we spoke to Councilman Keith Baxter.

Cm. Baxter: “As of today we haven’t made any changes to municipal ordinance but we will look at some changes based on a work session we had today and I would expect at the next meeting we might see something proposed.”

Soldotna Mayor Nels Anderson said he thinks that council has made some decisions that will be discussed further this week.

Mayor Anderson: “Well what its basically going to come down to is this, they’ve thrown out all of the special assessments except Porcupine which had already gone through but  I think all the others have all been chucked.”

That meeting will be this Wednesday and on the agenda is an ordinance to amend Soldotna municipal code chapter 3.18 Special Assessment District, to clarify written objections to the formation of a district.
