The Soldotna City Council will be meeting on Wednesday night, but unlike the Kenai City Council and the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly, the Soldotna chambers are closed to the public. The meeting will be held virtually, exclusively, as the central peninsula is still in the ‘High’ risk level for COVID transmission.
In fact, among the topics to be discussed at the meeting is an extension of Soldotna’s council mitigation measures. The council will discuss a resolution that allows council members to continue attending meetings remotely through April 30.
Also on the agenda is a discussion about updating COVID-19 protocols at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. Resolution 2021-001, introduced by Councilmember Justin Ruffridge, aims to allow greater access to the Sports Comlex to residents. He noted in a memo to the council: “Since our last meeting, we have seen decreasing case numbers and increasing access to vaccinations and therapeutics.” Under the resolution, masks would still be required, except for athletes on the ice. Team rooms would be opened and 80 spectators would be allowed in the building during any ice event. These protocols will be discussed before voting on the resolution.
Another resolution, introduced by city administration, would confirm Soldotna’s participation in the Shared Fisheries Business Tax Program.
