Two public hearings will take place during Wednesday’s Soldotna City Council meeting. Each hearing is for an ordinance from the desk of City Manager Stephanie Queen.
Ordinance 2021-001 aims to to provide landowners the opportunity to develop and use land along the Kenai River, while encouraging and requiring protection and enhancement of riparian habitat along the river. Ordinance 2021-002 would allow for a contract of around $32,000 to pay for warming the Waste Water Treatment Cold Storage, as it would be converted into a heated building.
Shanon Davis, the Executive Director of Soldotna’s Chamber of Commerce, will also deliver her quarterly report. Her recap of the 4th quarter of 2020 comes on the heels of two shop local campaigns at the end of the year, as well as the Soldotna Shines fireworks celebration. These efforts, and more, will be discussed by Davis to discuss how much they positively impacted Soldotna amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also set to be put before the council is Resolution 2021-008 which would contribute a $129,600 grant to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank to extend their weekly food box program. That program started to help ensure folks on the Kenai impacted by COVID-19 could still find easy, safe, pandemic-friendly methods of accessing food.
