The City of Soldotna will see an abundance of changes this summer including Walgreens moving in and the Binkley Street Improvement Project that could possibly impact school routes.
Soldotna City Planner John Czarneski confirmed today that Walgreens will be moving into the area by the “Y” in Soldotna as we previously had reported.
Czarneski: “It’s pretty safe to say it’s going to happen. but there’s still the is to dot and ts to cross, like I say the plat has to be recorded, the purchase of the land has to be completed so there’s still a number of things that have to happen but it appears that the train is moving in the right direction and it will all hopefully fall together.”
He also spoke to us about the Safe Routes to School work session scheduled for March 19 at 4:30 pm in the Soldotna Council Chambers.
Czarneski: “They are going to be looking at the draft plan, the plan basically is to take a look at ways to safely get kids to and from school either by foot or on bikes or a pair of skis, whatever mode of locomotion they choose. So the council and the planning and zoning commission are going to review all the recommendations, hopefully provide some comments and some ideas on what they like, what they don’t like. If they have some different priorities I hope they share them with us.”
The Safe Routes to School Project has taken polls of parents from Cook Inlet Academy, K-Beach Elementary, Redoubt Elementary, Soldotna Elementary, Montessori, and Middle School and have come up with recommendations based off of those along with public comments.
