The Soldotna Police Department may be getting $15,800 from a sizable 2014 drug bust.
Sergeant Duane Kant was at the Wednesday Soldotna City Council where the ordinance to designate those funds was introduced.
Sgt. Kant: “It doesn’t happen every year, it was a unique event. I’m not saying that we don’t have one of those events every year but it was a unique case that had a lot of cash involved that ultimately was forfeited to the city through the court process.”
The sergeant said he knows the case involved drugs but did not know the particulars of the bust.
Previously we spoke with Police Chief Peter Mlynarik who says he’s already determined how the money will be spent if it’s approved by the Council..
Chief Mlynarik: “We have laptop computers that are special computers that are designed to be used to write our crash accident reports and citations. They’re a particular type of computer with software, most of them are getting old and failing, so we’re in the process of replacing them anyway, so if we can use some of this forfeited cash to replace, I believe we have three of them, and then the remaining funds we’re going to try and buy another taser and assorted equipment for it.”
The ordinance will be up for public comment at Soldotna’s October 14 city council meeting where the council will decide if that is the best use of the funds.
