Soldotna’s Parks and Recreation Department was recognized for the development of the Soldotna Creek Park last Friday.
Director Andrew Carmichael says the Facility Excellence Award from the Alaska Recreation and Parks Association acknowledges the work by the city to transform the park’s current location.
State agencies collaborated with the City of Soldotna to clean-up the contaminants left over from the maintenance shop.
Soldotna’s efforts to create a notable summer space have been relayed to Carmichael’s department by locals.
A veterans organization is working to gather funds to install an Iron Mike statue in the park. Carmichael says his department has no further construction plans there.
