The Soldotna Parks and Recreation Department has proposed a new sport to bring to the Regional Sports Complex…
Carmichael: “Bubble Soccer. It’s in Anchorage already and it’s actually also in Fairbanks and it’s having great success and very well received.”
Parks and Rec Director Andrew Carmichael said in his research the sport has not had any major injuries in those cities.
Bubble soccer is played much like regular soccer but with players’ upper bodies encapsulated in a large, plastic, blow up bubbles.
Carmichael: “Well we’re just trying to fill up some empty ice, with the warmer temperatures the Youth Hockey Association did what they needed to do and skated over in Kenai where it’s a little bit cheaper but we need to have something to fall back on and fill some of those empty times and also expand our programming arm a little bit, where maybe we host and market out to more birthday parties and such.”
Carmichael added that in Anchorage the Dome had made up for what they spent on the bubble soccer equipment in just five months.
Bubble Soccer costs have been included in the Fiscal Year 2016 proposed budget.
