The City of Soldotna has passed an ordinance accepting a $1,000,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the Soldotna Field House Project. The grant will purchase portable flooring systems for the Field House.
The Soldotna Field House is a 40,500-square-foot multi-purpose building designed to host a variety of athletic events, community gatherings, conferences, meetings, and tradeshows. The facility is designed to maximize flexibility and is large enough to host statewide tournaments and other major events.
Construction began in early 2024, and the facility is projected to be completed by late 2025.
Soldotna Vice Mayor Lisa Parker commended the administration as well as the individuals at USDA for coming to a solution.
“It’s gonna be a magnificent project when it’s complete. It will be utilized by everyone in this community. I again, need to commend the administration for their diligence and being able to get it to the finish line.” Parker said.
Soldotna City Manager Janette Bower highlighted the long process. “We’re super happy to have made it through, and we very much thank USDA for working in partnership with us. We worked hard to get across this finish line.”
The USDA administers the funds, which are to be appropriated in the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex Capital Projects Fund to support the project. The ordinance increases estimated revenues and appropriations by $1,000,000 to fulfill the project’s funding needs.
Congresswoman Mary Peltola sponsored the ordinance.
