Over the weekend, the Pioneer Garden and Purple Heart Memorial Garden of Soldotna Creek Park were vandalized by thieves.
Donna Melvin noticed the empty spots when she began her day at about 5:30 am this morning.
Melvin: “The Purple Heart Memorial is in Soldotna Creek Park, it’s right in betweeen where the children play and the bathrooms that they just put in, but as far as everything that they dug out of that part, the main thing that they took were the delphiniums, the lillies, and the dianthus, all well established, two to three years old, some of them were just planted but they were two year old plants. I come in at about 5:30 and I set my sprinklers and what not and so when I started seeing little holes everywhere I stopped counting at about 20 and then went back and started counting when it was lighter out to get a full count.”
Approximately, 40 plus, well established, assorted lilies, giant and small purple and blue delphiniums, pink and purple dianthus and along with a variety of annuals were dug up.
Anyone with information on the thefts may contact Officer Justin Swangel at 907-714-1282.
