Two incumbent Soldotna City Council members were certified at the winners for the October 6 municipal election this week.
Seat A’s Paul Whitney defeated his competitor Fred Sturman by 153 votes.
Seat C saw a closer race between incumbent Linda Murphy and political newcomer Dan Nelson, Murphy winning the seat by 42 votes.
Both Whitney and Murphy agree that an upcoming issue will be Soldotna’s decision on local option zoning for marijuana.
Another issue facing Soldotna is annexation. The City Council is currently waiting to hear findings from a $50,000 economic study on proposed annexation locations.
