Soldotna Investigating New Outdoor Movie Showings with New Feature

The Soldotna Parks and Recreation Department has been hosting movies in the park since last year and is looking at other outdoor movie opportunities.

Assistant Parks Director Joel Todd says they recently got a new screen.

Todd: “We have the big Soldotna arch that’s probably 30 – 40 feet tall and our screen now fits inside of that so we can put it anywhere we want now because it has some support.”

He says with that increased portability of the screen, the department is considering how to host a new and different event…

Todd: “There is a way to partner up with the radio stations and have the audio actually feed through so you would be able to sit in your car and listen to the audio that’s being projected through the radio station. So that way we could do a drive in theater.”

This winter’s first movie in the park is scheduled for 6:30 pm this Friday, December 18, in Soldotna Creek Park.

Todd: “There’s no school on Friday, it’s the first day of winter break so we’re hoping to kick off the holidays with a good family fun event for everyone to come out to. It’s free, we’ll have the campfires up and running and we’re encouraging people to dress warm and bring chairs, snacks, hot drink, whatever they want to bring.”

Friday’s movie will be Minions.
