Soldotna police responded to a reported intoxicated driver at the Marydale Speedway on December 22nd at 11:37 p.m. Officers attempted to contact the driver, 22-year-old Nicolas Protzen of Soldotna who drove away and fled westbound on Marydale Avenue, according to an SPD press release.
Protzen reportedly failed to stop for officers and continued southbound on Kobuk Street. Near the Kobuk Court intersection, Protzen attempted to make a U-turn, became stuck in the snow, and also struck an Alaska State Trooper patrol vehicle.
Protzen was arrested for failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer in the first degree, two counts of assault in the third degree, driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test, resisting arrest and violating his court ordered conditions of release.
He was held without bail.
