At a Soldotna City Council meeting, Mayor Paul Whitney of Soldotna proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. He encourages all citizens to support The LeeShore Center in its mission to combat sexual violence and exploitation in the region.

Mayor Whitney says the theme for Sexual Assault Awareness Month is “Together We Act, United We Change.”

“A campaign that embodies the power of collective action in addressing and preventing sexual abuse, assault, and harassment now therefore I, Paul Whitney, Mayor of the city of Soldotna, Alaska do hereby proclaim April 2025, as sexual assault awareness month for the city of Soldotna.”

He says, “No one person, organization, agency, or community can eliminate sexual assault alone. Sexual violence prevention can be better addressed through education, counseling, support of victims and survivors, and increased support for service agencies in collaboration with the LeeShore Center.”

The LeeShore Center plays a crucial role in combating sexual violence by offering 24-hour crisis services, supporting survivors, and providing prevention education to various community groups, including schools, law enforcement, and medical personnel.

The proclamation took place on March 26, 2025.
