Soldotna Middle Focuses on End of Semester While Prepping for Move

As the end of the semester approaches, the Soldotna schools reconfiguration is on the minds of students and teachers alike.

 

Principal Sarge Truesdell at Soldotna Middle School said they have done their best to make the end of this year like any other.

Truesdell: “Keeping the pedal to the medal academically up until literally the picnic. We used to have this saying where at the picnic the last day of school, you hand me your textbook and I’ll hand you a hot dog.” 

 

He added that the teachers have done a phenomenal job working to make the transition seamless to the kids.

Truesdell: “And our teachers and our school, we were really happy being the Soldotna Spartans and we like our building and we spent years taking care of it and I love my office but we all kind of as a middle school took a step back and said this reconfiguration is really really good for the community of Soldotna, it was needed. With our move rather than say darnit I really like my office at Soldotna Middle School we’re getting excited about going and being the Skyview Panthers and creating an identity up there as a middle school.” 

 

Truesdell said he has been on the reconfiguration board since its creation and believes that the new reconfiguration will really unite the youth which had been forced to choose a high school before.

 

He added that most of the move is being handled by the Kenai Peninsula Borough during the summer months.
