At their meeting last week, the Soldotna City Council voted to approve $1,000 mini-grant awards to Project Homeless Connect and the Soldotna High School girl’s soccer team.
According to a memo accompanying the meeting agenda packet, the two organizations were the only applicants for this cycle’s second and final mini-grant award. Both were determined to be eligible for the mini-grants.
“We run a really good hard program. The girls work their tails off to be able to be able to achieve many of their goals,” said Kimberly Powell, who represented SOHI Girls Soccer at the meeting.
Also at the meeting, Kathy Gensel spoke on behalf of Project Homeless Connect.
“We do use the funding from the mini-grant to help purchase gift cards, and actually, this year, we decided to give more than $5.00 for a gift card, so we went up to $10, thinking that somebody could take a gift card to Arby’s and, hopefully, purchase a meal for $10.”
Gensel added that the gift cards would also be used for showers and laundry.
The two grants were approved by unanimous consent.
