A parcel set aside for future park development has now been sold to private neighbors.
Marcus and Lisa Guidry last night agreed to pay $30,000 for the 0.3 acre parcel on Riverview Avenue.
Guidry: “We’re not going to do anything with it right now, we’re just going to enjoy the fairness the City gave us and we appreciate everyone’s support. We don’t have any intent to do anything with it at this point.”
The Guidry’s request was put to the Soldotna City Council, who approved the sale after the parcel was withdrawn from public bid.
Councilors Meggean Bos and Pete Sprague expressed some concern; Sprague said he had no problem with the Guidrys and believed they would be good stewards, but he didn’t agree with taking the property out of the city auction.
Cm. Sprague: “As far as public process, I think there needs to be some very valid, very strong reasons for sole source, and I didn’t necessarily see that in this case.”
Sprague said the sale also didn’t classify as “negotiated,” since the price the Guidrys paid would have been the opening bid if the property went to auction.
Ultimately, the Guidrys and their neighbors were thrilled with the decision.
