The Soldotna City Council adopted a resolution that remembers the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against the United States. Resolution 2021-043 also formally recognizes the many who served in the United States Military and all first responders.
Councilman Dave Carey introduced the resolution:
“The purpose of the resolution is to acknowledge the fact that 20 years ago, we were attacked. It was terrorists. This community particularly and this nation it brought us together. We had a common purpose – our love of our country, our flag, our love of those people who are the first responders who risk their life everyday on our behalf and also because we wanted to remember all those who lost their life. We are going to march on Saturday. It’s going to be a parade of flags. I’ve got a number of the 9/11 flags. We’ll start here at the Joel Wilkins. We’ll go to the VFW and, again we’re just going to say, ‘We love all of you who served’. We’ll then walk on down to Farnsworth Park. We’re going there because of the kids, so many of the kids helped us with packages and it just seems like it’s a logical place to acknowledge the children of our community, course now they’re now adults, who helped with this. Also, that park overlooking it is a faith community. Again, they’re very watchful of what goes on and the faith communities were very helpful. Then we’ll go to Iron Mike. Assuming this resolution is approved, at the Iron Mike statue at around 11:00, I hope we start here at 10:00, we’ll read the resolution I hope that is going to passed tonight.”
Carey said that with many acts of kindness and support for those who make America Great, and as “One Nation Under God” whose motto is “In God we trust”, the City of Soldotna proudly proclaims their love of country on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attack.
A copy of the resolution will be sent to the local VFW, American Legion and AmVets.
