Soldotna Pilot Fails to Report Accident on Glacier

The Rescue Coordination Center in Anchorage notified the Alaska State Troopers of a crashed plane on Dinglestadt Glacier July 20.

 

A pilot reported the crash site to the RCC after seeing it on July 19, after which the Civil Air Patrol of Anchorage located the wreckage about 25 miles northeast of Homer.

 

No occupants of the plane were found.

 

Based on the tail number of the yellow Cessna 140, Troopers contacted the owner on the registration by phone; 24-year-old Joshua Mastre of Soldotna said he was flying on July 14 when a strong down-draft caused him to wreck on the mountainside.

 

Mastre was uninjured and hiked out but failed to report that crash to Alaska State Troopers, the Federal Aviation Administration, or the National Transportation Safety Board.

 

The Alaska State Troopers notified the Federal Aviation Administration.
