Held annually in July, Soldotna Progress Days is a celebration of the Soldotna community. The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce describes Progress Days as a staple of summertime in Soldotna, “an event about celebrating the past and looking forward to the future.” It will begin on July 9 with an campaign promoting shopping local in Soldotna.
The Soldotna Chamber plans to honor the city in 2020 with a Soldotna Strong-themed Progress Days, acknowledging that the event will look quite different than previous years.
In lieu of holding a parade, due to concerns about risks posed by COVID-19, the Chamber is partnering with the Wednesday Market to honor Soldotna’s businesses and residents on Wednesday, July 22. This enhanced day at the Market will include The Amazing Chamber Chase and the culmination of the city-wide shop local campaign.
The Amazing Chamber Chase was explained to KSRM by Shanon Davis, Executive Director of the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce: “This is gonna be a social distancing activity, but it’s going to be a scavenger hunt throughout Soldotna. People can gather their teams together, we’re accepting teams of up to seven. If you are a group that is already hanging out together, whether it’s a family group or maybe an office situation, we’re going to be sending people all over Soldotna to take selfies at the different stations. The winning group will win a great prize. We haven’t decided if that’s going to be cash or if that’s going to be something else, but we will let you know probably by next week. We’re also going to be encouraging costumes. So, there will also be a prize for the team with the best costume.”
The chase will be held on July 22 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. in conjunction with the Soldotna Strong Progress Day Celebration.
