Alaska State Troopers were notified of a shooting at a Soldotna residence at 8:19 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29. The Alaska State Troopers immediately responded to the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that 28-year-old Soldotna resident Nathan Penrod had shot 29-year-old Soldotna resident Zechariah Bowman several times with a handgun, according to the online trooper dispatch. Bowman was declared deceased at the scene and Penrod fled the residence.
A short time later, Penrod contacted Alaska State Troopers and was interviewed.
At 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, Penrod was arrested on charges of murder in the first degree and assault in the third degree. He was remanded to Wildwood Correctional Center.
Bowman’s next of kin have been notified and his remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner for autopsy.
