The 29th Annual Sweeney’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, scheduled for March 17, has been cancelled, according to a Friday afternoon news release.
The statement notes that the decision came from the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce along with parade founder Mike Sweeney, and noted that the decision was “difficult.”
Shanon Davis, Director of the Soldotna Chamber: “On behalf of the Soldotna Chamber, we want to thank our sponsors, participants, volunteers, and patrons for their support of the parade and this decision. Mr. Sweeney and the Board and staff of the Chamber agree, no public gathering takes priority over the health of anyone attending.”
The release also notes that the Soldotna Chamber and Mr. Sweeney are anticipating next year’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, as it will mark the celebration’s 30th anniversary.
