Soldotna To Appoint New Seat F Council Member

The Soldotna City Council will fill a vacancy on the legislative body of the City of Soldotna at the regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, January 11th at the Soldotna City Hall Council Chamber.

 

Council Members will interview applicants and select a replacement for the seat vacated by former council member Justin Ruffridge; Ruffridge resigned from the Soldotna City Council following a successful bid for Alaska House District 7.

 

According to a memo from Soldotna City Clerk Johni Blankenship, four applications for the City Council, Seat F vacancy were received and have met the requirements specified under city code and state statutes to serves as a member of the City Council.

 

Completed applications were received and certified for Julie Kincaid, Larry Opperman, Donica Nash and Chera Wackler.

Process for selection of a new Council Member:

Under the “Procedures for Selecting and Appointing a Qualified Person to Fill a Vacancy in the Soldotna City Council”, Council members at Wednesday’s meeting will follow these required steps: Interview the candidates; Close the interview process to begin voting–Clerk will provide ballots which you will mark, fold and pass back to the clerk;  The votes will be tallied and read into the record by the clerk–A successful candidate must receive three (3) votes;  Close the voting process;  Move to appoint the applicant who received at least (3) votes to Council Seat F;  Clerk to administer oath to the selected applicant; Successful applicant will then take his/her seat as a Council Member.
