Soldotna to Hear Public Testimony on Driveway Widths

The City of Soldotna will hear public testimony on an ordinance to widen city driveways up to 30 ft this week.

 

Jerry Farrington has been fighting the city’s 24ft limit on driveways since the summer of 2012.

Farrington: “Some people know where I live, we have no sidewalks. Anybody who walks by our house walks down the street. Obviously in the wintertime, the streets are icy and everything else. So it is a safety issue. For me as well, it’s a convenience issue, being able to have three (vehicles) wide. When I had my brother living with me last year, he had his work vehicle there, he could come and go as he wanted to and he wouldn’t be blocking in one of our vehicles.”

 

Farrington previously petition the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council, but they found he didn’t satisfy the right requirements for a variance.

 

The issue was again brought forward in November, and the Council produced an ordinance to change the limit from 24ft to 30 ft.

 

Also on the agenda for the January 14 council meeting is a quarterly report from the Soldotna Visitor’s Center.

 

That meeting will be at 6 pm, in the Soldotna City Council Chambers.
