The Soldotna Community Memorial Park on Redoubt Avenue continues to experience growing pains since its opening in 2011.

The Memorial Park expansion plan received approval of additional funds in 2020 for master planning, Soldotna City Manager Stephanie Queen;

“For the Memorial Park expansion, the the Council appropriated some additional funds early in 2020 to due some master planning and expanding; as you recall, at the time we were very low on available plots particularly in the Veteran’s area but also in the lawn area.”

The City of Soldotna adopted a master plan for expansion in June;

“The master plan was adopted by the Council in June and we tackled the Veteran’s area first, that’s been online for some time.  I’m happy to report that what we are calling Phase 2, the new section of lawn with plots available upright headstones or plot markers is now also available.”

Queen elaborated on the current status at the Soldotna Memorial Park;

“The Memorial Park in 10-years old, there’s approximately 185plots that have been reserved or in use in that time.  This new section has 385 new plots so there is quite a capacity if folks are looking to reserve a place or if they need a place to intern they can contact the clerks and the map has been updated on the website to see where those new spots are available.  We do have approximately $80,000 remaining for decremental landscaping that goes in  in the spring.  The landscaping is done. they will update some seeding in the spring, putting in trees,  landscaping and improving the buffer on the North edge adjacent to the neighborhood and that work will be done in the spring.”

Soldotna Community Memorial Park was established in 2011 as a partnership with the Kenai Peninsula Borough, the park is available to all area residents, not just those who reside in the city of Soldotna.
