The City of Soldotna has agreed to restrict development on a parcel of land near the river for five years while the Chamber of Commerce designs a new Visitors Center Facility for the spot.

Meggean Bos-Marquez was the only member of Soldotna’s council to vote no on that resolution which agrees the city will not develop the property known as the ‘Davis Block’ property.

Bos-Marquez: “I think five years is a long period of time and I am not in favor of restricting development on a parcel of land because we don’t know what may come about between now and five years from now.”

Soldotna Chamber of Commerce President Ryan Kapp said the Chamber is looking forward to further planning of the new Visitors Center which will also host conventions.

Kapp: “To kind of summarize it, it’s to secure a contract person that will help drive the process and look at fundraising options, etc., and kind of just keep the ball rolling forward and work through the process.”

The City of Soldotna finalized the purchase of the three-acre parcel adjacent to Soldotna Creek Park  in early 2014.
