Soldotna Water/Sewer Rates Revised

Soldotna water and sewer rates may soon go up by 8 and 11 percent respectively.

Utilities Manager Rick Wood said the last rate study was completed in 2010 and the new fees would be effective next year…

Wood: “We have several different types of rates, we’ve got flat rate and metered, but just to make it easier, a flat rate you’re looking at for the first year, if the Council approved it, would go up about $4.20 a month for sewer and your water would increase about $1.67 for residential.”

The fund has been slowly drained by new capital expenses. The City has been building a new one million gallon water reservoir after the on the old half-million gallon tank became unstable and the roof caved in…

Wood: “Well it was just built back in the 70’s and the location where it was built, it was hard to get equipment up there and the foundation was a concrete foundation and the concrete was all mixed by hand and over the years the concrete just started deteriorating.”

Wood said the new reservoir should be completed this July.

An ordinance to raise the water and sewer rates is yet to be brought forward for Council debate and public comment.
