Soldotna’s Aspen Drive Project on Schedule

The Aspen Drive paving project in Soldotna is on schedule according to Public Works Project Manager Lee Frey.

Frey: “We’ve just put the first lift of gravel down on filling up the road. We had a lot of underground work to do on that project, we replaced the water main and had to replace a lot of water and sewer services as well on there, that’s part of the reason the construction took so long out there. Now we’re filling up the road, they’re working on driving some pilings and putting conduit in for street lights right now and then we’ll be working on curb, gutter, sidewalk, and paving after that.”

That project which detoured traffic from businesses like Cadre Feed and Kenai River Brewing is set to be finished in the first weeks of September.

Frey said they took the road improvement project as an opportunity to upgrade portions of the sewage system.

Frey: “If we’re going to look to pave a road or redo the asphalt on a road we definitely want to check out and see if there’s any deficiencies in the water and sewer service, if there’s any private lots along the street that have freeze up issues or something along those lines. That’s the most ideal time to fix it is when we’re already removing the paving so that we don’t have to put in patches in the road.”

The project began in June.
