This is the second winter that the City of Soldotna has put on “Movies in the Park” and the events in Soldotna Creek Park are gaining popularity.
Assistant Director Joel Todd of Soldotna’s Parks and Recreation Department says the movie “Minions” in December saw a great turnout.
Todd: “We had about 300 people come out and there was actually like seven or eight other community events happening that night so we were pretty excited about that turnout.”
The Department recently began using its new portable screen, which Todd says is nice when Alaska’s uncooperative weather makes the area near the stage icy.
Todd: “We as a department are excited because even as we were looking last week there was zero snow and ice all over the existing area where we show movies, we were planning on moving it to the other side of the park where there’s more grass and having a portable screen allows us to do that.”
The next Movie in the Park will be The Lego Movie, starting at 6:30 pm this Saturday, January 16, sponsored by Pizza Boys which will be on site selling pizza.
Recent weather has made the ice skating path unavailable for this weekend but the Department hopes to be able to have that in February.
