Some Races Still Too Close To Call In Borough And Municipal Elections

It looks like absentee ballots will decide some races in the Kenai Peninsula Borough and Municipal elections held yesterday, October 3rd.

 

Less than 20 votes separate three different races. In Borough Assembly District 3 (Nikiski) Incumbent Peter Ribbens holds a 5 vote lead over challenger Adam Bertoldo; in KPBSD Board of Education District 7 (Central) Board President Debbie Cary trails Diane MacRae by 17 votes.

 

In the Kenai City Council, Henry Knackstedt appears to be the only candidate KSRM can currently call as a winner for one of the two open seats. The second seat is too close to call at this time, with only six votes separating incumbent Teea Winger and challenger Phil Daniel. Glenese Pettey is still in contention for the second seat, trailing Winger by 24 votes.

 

Borough and municipal election polling locations closed around the Kenai Peninsula at 8:00 p.m. and the KSRM News Department is monitoring the results. The Kenai Peninsula Borough Clerk states that the election results will be certified on Tuesday, October 10th. Soldotna City Council results will be certified on Wednesday, October 11th.  The Kenai City Council results will be certified at the next council meeting on Thursday, October 19th.  Results will be updated on KSRM’s Election Hub as they are confirmed and received.
