The National Weather Service said a surge of warm air from the southeast will raise temperatures significantly starting Wednesday.

Andy Dickson with the Weather Service says the entire Kenai Peninsula will see melting temperatures throughout the week and possibly through the weekend.

Dickson: “Starting tomorrow temperatures are going to jump back up into the 30s down there, it’ll probably be even a few degrees warmer than that. You’ll probably get into the mid thirties tomorrow, potentially even the upper thirties.”

He added to take extra precaution while driving as black ice is expected.

Dickson: “So even if temperatures cool off to 33 or 34, people look at their car thermometers and think, ‘Oh great, there’s going to be no ice its above freezing.’ There will still be some ice especially on back roads.”

Dickson said the ground is still frozen and will cause melt off to re-freeze at night.
