Southcentral Conference Baseball Tournament Concludes: Stars Fall In 2nd Place Game

The Southcentral Conference baseball tournament concluded Saturday in Palmer; the SCC will be represented at the state baseball tournament by Wasilla, tournament champion, and Colony, tournament runner-up.  The baseball conference tournament qualifies two teams to the ASAA Baseball State Championships.

 

The Soldotna Stars baseball team split a pair of extra inning contests on Saturday; defeating Kodiak and falling in the 2nd place game to Colony.  The Stars played three extra-inning games in the three-day tournament.

Thursday’s Opening Round Results

SoHi 11 – Houston 1

The Soldotna Stars recorded an opening round 11-1 victory over Houston; then, advanced to the winner’s bracket semi-final to face Wasilla.

Kenai 1 –  Palmer 6

The Palmer Moose downed Kenai 6-1.  Paul Steffensen pitched four innings for Kenai, allowing one, earned run and went 4 for 4 from the plate.

Colony 12 – Homer 11

Thursday’s Semi-final Winner’s Games

Wasilla 3 – SoHi 2  9 innings

The Stars fell 3-2 to the Warriors. Matthew Daugherty pitched 6 2/3 innings for the Stars, allowing two, unearned runs.  Tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Warriors plate the game-winning run in the extra inning contest on a throwing error with the winning run scoring on a play at the plate.
