The 2020 Southcentral Conference Basketball Tournament, hosted at Anchorage Christian School, opened tournament play on Thursday with games running through Saturday, March 12-14 in the ACS Gym. Nikiski & Kenai girls post overtime wins; Bulldog and Kardinal boys drop opening games.
Thursday March 12th Results
Nikiski Boys 34 – Grace Christian 76
Noah Litke lead the Bulldog boys with 28 points.
Kenai Girls 40 – Redington 33 – OT
The Kardinal girls downed Redington in overtime 40-33. Kenai lead 18-11 at the half and 21-20 after three quarters. The Kard girls fell behind and rallied late to tie the game in the final seconds. In the overtime, Kenai outscored Redington 10-3.
Nikiski Girls 46 – Houston 43- OT
The Nikiski girls squandered leads in the first half and lost the lead in the third quarter; then rallied from a 6-point deficit in the final minutes to send the game into overtime in a 46-43 victory over Houston. Nikiski’s Kaitlyn Johnson, with Nikiski trailing 40-38, hit two free throws with only one second on the clock to send the game to overtime. In the overtime, Lillian Carstens scored all six Bulldog points for the 46-43 win. Carstens totaled 25 points in the Nikiski victory.
Nikiski and Kenai will face-off in the winner’s bracket semi-final on Friday night at 7 p.m.
Kenai Boys 50 – ACS 78
The Kenai boys battle early, trailing 18-17 in the first quarter; ACS powered to a 78-50 victory. Evan Stockton topped the Kards with 12 points.
Homer Girls 33 – Grace 18
Homer Boys 48 – Houston 46
Seward Boys 65 – Redington 49
ACS Girls 74 – Seward 17
