Districts in southeast Alaska saw the largest Tanner Crab harvest in over a decade last month after catching over 1 million pounds.
According to state biologist Joe Stratman, higher numbers have not been seen since 2000-2001 and the largest catches came from the northern end of the Southeast.
He also said that 80 permit holders were involved in the harvest last month that started two days late last month due to bad weather.
With dock prices at about $2.70 a pound, the record harvest is valued at just over $3.1 million.
Last month’s catch alone eclipsed last years harvest by 12,000 pounds.
