Speaker Chenault Talks Voter Privacy

During the last election season many Alaskans disliked receiving letters which detailed their voting history and “threatened” to share it with friends and neighbors.

House Speaker Mike Chenault said he heard many outcries from voters against it and has often had discussions about what personal information should and should not be available.

Spkr. Chenault: “I know that one of my daughters got it and one of my nieces got it and it’s frustrating because I believe it was from an outside, I don’t know if they were campaign strategists or just who or what they were but I can look into it and see, I’d have to see if there’s a statute that needs to be changed or something to not allow that to happen.”

Many Alaskans said the ploy to get more votes actually had the opposite effect.
