Special Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly Meeting Scheduled For Tuesday

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly is going to hold a special meeting on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

Resolution 2020-084 is going to be introduced at the special meeting. It reads: “Extending the Disaster Emergency Declaration for the Kenai Peninsula Borough issued due to the current and expected imminent impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to March 31, 2021.” It’s introduced by Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce.

Pierce issued a Disaster Emergency Declaration on March 16, 2020, due to the current pandemic in the Kenai Peninsula Borough and it was extended at the June 2 meeting as well as at its September 1 meeting till December 30, 2020.

According to the resolution, the declaration activates the borough’s emergency response plan and requests disaster assistance from the State of Alaska by making available resources as needed for the ongoing response and recovery from the current and potential impacts. The significant expenses from the ongoing pandemic, additional personal protective equipment and payroll costs for quarantine and overtime backfill were cited as reasons for the need for the declaration.

The resolution also says that the borough isn’t eligible for reimbursement of disaster-related expenses through public assistance without a disaster declaration in effect. The resolution is set to take effect immediately upon its adoption.

The meeting will be held through Zoom, the Meeting ID: 128 871 931. To join the meeting from a computer, visit https://zoom.us/j/128871931.
